PERFORMANCES / Il Viaggio del Tricolore Italiano
IL VIAGGIO DEL TRICOLORE ITALIANO
The “Journey of the Italian Tricolour” is an artistic performance by Abruzzo-born artist Vincent Giannico, whose favourite means of artistic expression are sculpture, installation, painting, video, and photo images for both installations and live performances.
In this itinerant exhibition, the Italian flag bearing the number 150 will be displayed in countries across Europe. The underlying aim of the live work is to celebrate, narrate and share wonderful “Italy” with its “neighbours” and to bring a message of peace, unity and fraternity.
An important stop-over will be made in Tallinn, Estonia. The artist will travel to the city, bringing a piece of his work entitled Italia & Estonia for culture – acrylic on canvas, 2011 – to be donated to the event organising committee in order to create a twinning between Italy and Tallinn, European City of Culture 2011.
The journey will be made from start to finish in a 1990 Fiat UNO, during the “lifetime” of which many of the countries to be visited have become members of the European Union.
