PERFORMANCES / Back to Sarajevo
BACK TO SARAJEVO
“Back to Sarajevo” is an artistic performance by Vincent Giannico, an Abruzzo-born artist who loves to use sculpture, installations, painting, video, performance and installation photo images for his works .
In Back to Sarajevo, an upside-down military helmet containing a white handkerchief symbolizing peace will be photographed in front of key monuments from city to city. The underlying aim of the live work is to commemorate, share and support the Balkan peoples whose lives have seen much suffering.
The installation will travel through the biggest cities and those hardest hit by the war in Bosnia- Herzegovina, as well as other Balkan towns and cities.
On returning home to Italy, one image from each visit will be selected as the basis of the physical-artistic part of the work, which will have the same name. “Instead of a brush on canvas, I opted for a camera and a car” the artist explained”.
The journey will be made from start to finish in a 1990 Fiat UNO, which by now has become an integral part of the artist’s many trips.
